Battlemage Hugues is an evergaol boss in Elden Ring.
Battlemage Hugues is a sorcerer-warrior of the Academy sealed inside the Sellia Evergaol in Caelid. He batters foes with a stone club and a conjured magic gavel, and fires heavy sorcery from range. He is slow and easily staggered by heavy blows. Defeating him yields his own Spirit Ashes.
Lore
Hugues wears a tattered scholar's robe and a glintstone crown and fights with a heavy stone club. He conjures a hammer of light and fires great glintstone shards and explosive cannon blasts.
Hugues came from Sellia to study the Haima Conspectus at the Academy, where he became a battlemage. Haima scholars seek to quell conflict with cannon fire and the gavel, but Hugues came to long for battle itself.
Whenever war broke out and the Academy sealed its gates, only Haima's scholars dared venture outside.

Attacks
- Gavel of Haima: up close he conjures a magic hammer and slams it down twice; roll away or get behind him.
- Cannon of Haima: from far away he charges and lobs an exploding magic projectile; roll toward him or run to the side.
- Club Swings: up to eight swings of his stone club; roll through or block.
- Headbutt: he rears back and headbutts with his glintstone crown; roll back or block.
- Great Glintstone Shard: up to six magic shards in a row; run sideways or interrupt him.
Tactics
- Circle behind him and backstab when an opening appears.
- Roll through the Gavel of Haima and strike from behind.
- Stagger him with heavy or colossal weapons, then land a critical hit.
- Hide behind the large branches in the evergaol to block his Cannon of Haima.
- Raise a shield with high magic defense against his spells.
- Stay close to keep him from casting at range.
