The Longsword is a Straight Sword in Elden Ring.

The Longsword is a double-edged straight sword that pairs reliable standard damage with strong piercing attacks, a well-balanced weapon for staying mobile in a fight. It is starting equipment for the Vagabond and can be bought from the Twin Maiden Husks at the Roundtable Hold for 1,000 runes. It uses the standard straight sword moveset of quick slashes with a one-handed thrust as its heavy attack, and two-handing it raises damage enough to stagger most enemies. It scales on Strength and Dexterity evenly but gains more from Strength, and its elemental scaling under Flame Art, Sacred and Magic beats the Lordsworn's Straight Sword. It suits almost any early character and stays useful as a base for infusions.

Skill

Square Off costs 6 / 8 FP. The wielder holds the sword level in a ready stance, which costs nothing to hold but slows stamina recovery. A normal attack steps in with an upward slash that breaks through an enemy's guard, while a strong attack performs a running thrust. Holding the stance for a moment first lets Rellana's Cameo boost the follow-ups, and both can be parried. It is the weapon's default Ash of War, so another can take its place.
