The Rotten Staff is a Colossal Weapon in Elden Ring. It arrives late in the game, in Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree.
The Rotten Staff is a ceremonial staff depicting the Erdtree in its historic radiance, now festering with scarlet rot. It drops from the Putrid Avatars in Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree. It is the purely physical counterpart of the Staff of the Avatar, a slow colossal weapon whose swings build scarlet rot, while its Erdtree Slam skill matches the Staff of the Avatar's and does not inflict rot. It scales with Strength and lightly with Dexterity. It suits a Strength build that wants a rot-inflicting colossal weapon without Faith.
How to Get Rotten Staff Guide
- Dropped by the Putrid Avatar patrolling the bridge in Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree.
- The Avatar is visible down and to the right immediately after exiting the chamber with the Prayer Room Site of Grace.

Erdtree Slam costs 19 FP. The wielder leaps high into the air and lands rear-first on the ground ahead, and the impact sends golden shockwaves out in all directions. The landing deals holy damage along with physical damage, with the holy part scaling with Faith. It is the strongest of the Ground Slam skills. It is exclusive to this weapon.

Swing to stack scarlet rot on large enemies and use Erdtree Slam as a burst finisher.
