The Weathered Straight Sword is a Straight Sword in Elden Ring. It is available within the first few hours of a run.

The Weathered Straight Sword has a short, wide blade and was once known as the sword of the people; its Erdtree styling is still visible, but time has worn it down. It drops from Commoner enemies, with easy farming early in the Ailing Village on the Weeping Peninsula and in a room full of commoners near the Secluded Cell Site of Grace in Stormveil Castle. It uses the standard straight sword moveset and asks for only 7 Strength and 10 Dexterity. It is the second weakest straight sword in raw attack power, ahead of only the Cane Sword, so it serves best as an early weapon until a Longsword or Broadsword turns up. It suits any new character, with Heavy or Keen to steer its scaling.

How to Get Weathered Straight Sword Guide

Dropped by Commoner enemies with a 4% drop rate.
An easy spot to farm is the room with a Grafted Scion, where 3 Commoners are sitting next to a fireplace near the stairs to the second floor (an easy path there is taking the elevator next to the Rampart Tower Site of Grace).
A more complicated but also more efficient farming spot is heading southwest from the Secluded Chamber Site of Grace and, once up a small pile of rocks, turn around to the right and use a wooden platform to jump to a thin stone ledge. Jump to a dark room to the right and proceed along the path to a second dark room, full of Commoners.

Skill

Square Off costs 6 / 8 FP. The wielder holds the sword level in a ready stance, which costs nothing to hold but slows stamina recovery. A normal attack steps in with an upward slash that breaks through an enemy's guard, while a strong attack performs a running thrust. Holding the stance for a moment first lets Rellana's Cameo boost the follow-ups, and both can be parried. It is the weapon's default Ash of War, so another can take its place.

"This skill starts with the sword held level. Follow up with a normal attack to slash upwards through enemy's guard, or a strong attack to perform a running thrust."

Suggested Build

Played as an early one-handed sword, relying on Square Off for guard breaks and stance damage until a stronger sword replaces it.
