The Sword of Darkness is a Straight Sword in Elden Ring. It comes from Shadow of the Erdtree and is found in the Ancient Ruins of Rauh.
The Sword of Darkness is the Stone-Sheathed Sword pulled free at an altar, its dark blade formed from coils of darkness that coalesce from the quick of the root. It is made by taking the Stone-Sheathed Sword to the darkness altar, which is the Ruins of Unte if the sword came from the Fog Rift Catacombs, or the Fog Rift Catacombs otherwise, and it switches freely with the Sword of Light while keeping its upgrade level. It deals equal physical and holy damage with the standard straight sword moveset. Its skill, Darkness, raises the sword and sprays streams of holy darkness in a circle, cutting the holy damage negation of every enemy hit for a long time, and it pairs with the Sword of Light's self buff to raise holy damage further. It suits a Strength and Faith character who wants to set up holy damage, though it blocks poorly.
How to Get Sword of Darkness Guide
- Take the Stone-Sheathed Sword or Sword of Light to an altar at either Fog Rift Catacombs or Ruins of Unte.
- WARNING: Once either the Sword of Darkness or Sword of Light has been acquired, though the two forms can be freely switched between by traveling to their assigned altars, the Stone-Sheathed Sword itself cannot be reacquired until the next new game cycle begins.

- If the Stone-Sheathed Sword was taken from Fog Rift Catacombs or Ancient Ruins of Rauh, the altar at Ruins of Unte should be used. If it was taken from Ruins of Unte, the altar at Fog Rift Catacombs should be used.

Skill
Darkness costs 30 FP. The wielder raises the sword so that it hovers and spins aloft, then sweeps a fog of darkness in a full circle around the wielder, dealing holy damage that scales with Faith. Enemies touched by the fog lose 20 percent of their holy damage negation for 60 seconds, which sets up harder hits from later holy attacks. It is exclusive to this weapon.
Suggested Build
Played as a holy setup sword: Darkness goes off from ambush or on a staggered foe to weaken holy resistance, then holy attacks and incantations follow.
