The Rotten Crystal Sword is a Straight Sword in Elden Ring.

When to Use It

Late game. It is found around Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree, far enough in that it is an end-of-run weapon rather than something to build towards.

Upgrades

Ordinary Smithing Stones carry it all the way to +25, and because it is not a Somber weapon it will also hold a grease or a weapon buff, which is a damage source the unique blades simply do not have.

Build

Its scaling runs Str at D, Dex at E and Int at D, so Str and Int are the stats worth levelling, and you need Str 13, Dex 10 and Int 15 before you can lift it. Any Ash of War and any affinity will sit on it, so its scaling can be re-cut towards whichever stat you are already levelling. It also causes slight scarlet rot buildup on its own, with no infusion needed.

Sword fashioned from pure crystal; a deed impossible for a human. It festers with scarlet rot. Enwreathed with powerful magic, its attack scales with intelligence.
