The Silver Greatsword is the best weapon in Skyrim to use against undead due to its special effect. The Greatsword is quite a rare weapon since it cannot be crafted and is almost entirely exclusive to the Silver Hand Faction. Its worth getting a silver Greatsword early in Skyrim because it allows you to easily defeat the countless undead Draugr in Nordic Tombs.
Weapon Enchantment
The Silver Greatsword has a unique effect exclusive to Silver Weapons in Skyrim. The effect incurrences its damage by an additional 20 points when used against Undead foes such as Draugr, Skeletons, Ghosts, Vampires and werewolves. This makes the Silver Greatsword the best weapon in the game to use against undead enemies, giving you an unmatched advantage against them.
Despite the Silver Greatswords powerful effect, it does not count as a enchantment and so it can still be enchanted at an Enchanting Alter.

How to Get the Silver Greatsword?
Where to find the Silver Greatsword Location?
- The Silver Greatsword is wielded by members of the Silver Hand Faction in Skyrim. As seen in the YouTube video guide above, you can find Silverhand members at various locations around Skyrim: Driftshade Refuge south east from Dawnstar, Ironback Hideout and Gallows Rock south west from Windhelm.
- One Silver Greatsword can be found next to the Vampire Royal Armor Set in Castle Volkihar during the Dawnguard Questline.
Gameplay Tips and Tricks
- The Silver Greatsword does a total base damage of 37 to undead enemies in Skyrim: 17 Base damage from the weapon and 20 damage from its unique effect. This makes it the best Greatsword in Skyrim to use against undead, its worth getting one early game to help you through the countless Nordic dungeons throughout Skyrim.
- The Silver Greatswords unique effect does not count as a standard enchantment, so the silver Greatsword is still affected by the Elemental Fury Shout. Alternatively the Silver Greatsword can also be enchanted at an enchanting alter to increase its damage further.
- The Silver Greatsword or Silver Greatsword is a required ingredient to craft enchanted Daedric Weapons at the Atronach Forge.
