The Erdtree Greatshield is a Greatshield in Elden Ring. It shows up mid-run, in the Altus Plateau.

The Erdtree Greatshield is a weighty greatshield forged of gold, carried by the Tree Sentinels, the living rampart of the Erdtree and the standard to which all its defenders aspire, and it is blessed by an old incantation of protection. It is the reward for defeating both Tree Sentinels guarding the gate to the Outer Wall Phantom Tree Site of Grace in the Altus Plateau. Besides full physical blocking it has very good holy and magic damage reduction, and it splits its attack between physical and holy damage. Its unique skill, Golden Retaliation, readies the shield to dispel sorceries and incantations and retaliate with golden power, and it can be triggered by any lasting magical effect, including the wielder's own. It scales with Strength and Faith at D and suits a Strength and Faith build.

Skill

Golden Retaliation costs 4 FP. The wielder raises the Erdtree Greatshield behind a brief protective sigil. A sorcery or incantation that strikes the shield while the sigil is active is dispelled, and the shield fires a homing projectile of holy damage back in return. The window is short, so the skill rewards precise timing against incoming spells, and the holy damage scales with the shield's upgrade level and Faith. The skill is unique to this weapon and cannot be swapped out.

Guarding

With a guard boost of 60, a blocked hit that would cost 100 stamina only costs 40. It blocks all physical damage, and against the elements it holds up best to holy, at 76%, and worst to lightning, at 45%. A block that drains the last of the stamina bar breaks the guard, leaving an opening for a critical.
