Chillrend is a unique leveled glass sword with a pale blue blade. At level 46 and above it deals 15 base damage, the highest of any one-handed sword in the base game. It sits in an expert-locked display case under Riftweald Manor in Riften, reached during The Pursuit, but it can be taken as early as level 1.
Weapon Enchantment
Frostfeed deals frost damage on every hit and has a chance to paralyze the target for 2 seconds. The frost damage scales with level, from 5 points at level 1 to 30 points at level 46 and above. The two ranks of Augmented Frost raise the top figure to 37 and then 45.

Chillrend Map Location and Quest Guide
Chillrend map location:
Chillrend sits in a display case in the secret tunnels under Riftweald Manor in Riften. It is found during The Pursuit in the Thieves Guild questline.
- Meet Karliah in the Ragged Flagon.
- Speak with Brynjolf.
- Enter Riftweald Manor through the top door.
- Follow the tunnels under the manor to Mercer's office.
- Pick the expert lock on the display case and take Chillrend.

Chillrend is leveled; its damage and enchantment scale with character level.
Gameplay Tips
- Temper it at a grindstone with Refined Malachite. The Glass Smithing perk doubles the improvement.
- Wait until level 46 to take it for the strongest version.
- At its top level it matches the Dragonbone Sword, and only the strongest Miraak's Sword hits harder.
Smithing Guide
Enchanted weapons require the Arcane Blacksmith Perk to upgrade.
Upgrades
Chillrend is improved at a grindstone with one Refined Malachite per improvement. The Glass Smithing perk doubles the improvement, so each quality tier needs less Smithing skill. An enchanted copy can only be improved with the Arcane Blacksmith perk.

Weapon Levels
Some weapons in Skyrim are Levelled. The power of a levelled weapon is based on your charcters level when you get them. Some get stronger in both physical and magical aspects, while others only improve their enchantments. These items don't get better as your character levels up.
Chillrend is leveled. Its damage and enchantment are set by the character's level when it is first picked up, and the strongest version comes at level 46 or higher.
