The Nightingale Blade is the best sword in Skyrim if you get the unique weapon after you level up your character to level 46+. At level 46+ the sword will have the most powerful version of the Nightingale's Talon enchantment. While the sword does not have the highest base damage in the game its enchantment ignores the targets armor.
Weapon Enchantment
The Nightingale Blade has a unique enchantment called the Nightingale's Talon which absorbs between 5-25 points of the enemies stamina and health. The power of this enchantment scales to the level of the Dragonborn when they first find the Nightingale Sword location.
The Nightingale Blade can be used 54 times before it needs to be recharged with a soul gem.

How to Get Nightingale Blade Lcoation
Where to find Nightingale Blade Location
You can get the Nightingale Blade by starting the Thieves Guild Questline. During the quest Hard Answers, Karliah will give the Nightingale Sword to the Dragonborn as a reward for finishing the Thieves Guild Questline. The weapon is obtained after the Nightingale Armor Set.
Gameplay Tips
- It can be worth delaying the completion of the Thieves Guild Questline until the Dragonborn is level 46+ so you can obtain the best version of the Nightingale Blade which deals the most damage and has the most powerful enchantment. If you get the Nightingale Blade too early it will be out levelled by other weapons which deal more damage. The same logic can be applied to only obtaining the Nightingale Armor Set after level 32+. This way you ensure that you have the best version of these unique weapons and armor pieces.
- Even though the Nightingales Sword only has a base damage of 14, similar to a Daedric Sword, its unique enchantment can absorb 25 stamina and health, this completely ignores the enemies armor and heals you with each strike. Overall this means the weapon deals 39 damage per hit, which makes it the best weapon in Skyrim. The damage can be further increases by leveling the One-handed Skill.

Weapon Levels
Some weapons in Skyrim are Levelled. The power of a levelled weapon is based on your charcters level when you get them. Some get stronger in both physical and magical aspects, while others only improve their enchantments. These items don't get better as your character levels up.
The Nightingale Blade is a unique weapon, its enchantment and base damage scale to the Dragonborns level when its first obtained. The most powerful version of the Nightingale Blade has 14 base damage, while the enchantment absorbs 25 stamina and health from its target.
