The Gargoyle's Blackblade is a Greatsword in Elden Ring.

When to Use It

Mid game. It is found around Caelid, which opens up past Stormveil Castle, so it arrives once a build has taken shape.

Why Players Pick It

Most holy damage of any Greatsword at +0 and 249 physical + 298 holy at max standard, the largest holy number in the class, on a 22 Faith requirement rather than the Golden Order Greatsword's 28.

Upgrades

It takes Somber Smithing Stones rather than the common kind, one per level up to +10, and it keeps its own skill for good: no Ash of War will replace it and no affinity will re-cut its scaling.

Skill

Corpse Wax Cutter costs 20 FP. Lost skill of ancient heroes. Lift the sword up high to release the power of corpse wax and launch it forwards as a blade-like projectile. It belongs to this weapon alone: no Ash of War will move it onto anything else, and nothing will replace it here.

Build

Its scaling runs Str at D, Dex at E and Fai at D, so Str and Fai are the stats worth levelling, and you need Str 18, Dex 10 and Fai 22 before you can lift it. Because the skill is its own, the build has to come to the weapon rather than the other way round.

Notes

Bronze greatsword wielded by Valiant Gargoyles, mended with blackened corpse wax. Deals holy damage. Such is the mark of those who serve Maliketh, the Black Blade.
