The Bolt of Gransax is a Spear in Elden Ring.

When to Use It

Mid game. It is found around Altus Plateau, which opens up past Stormveil Castle, so it arrives once a build has taken shape.

Why Players Pick It

One of nine Legendary Armaments and the only spear with innate lightning: 98 physical / 63 lightning at +0, 240 / 154 at max standard. Records +20% damage against Dragon-type and +10% against Ancient Dragon-type enemies, and that it benefits greatly from Shard of Alexander and Godfrey Icon. The costs are real: 40 Dex, Somber only, no infusion, no buffs, and it must be taken from Leyndell before the Ashen Capital transition.

Upgrades

It takes Somber Smithing Stones rather than the common kind, one per level up to +10, and it keeps its own skill for good: no Ash of War will replace it and no affinity will re-cut its scaling.

Skill

Ancient Lightning Spear costs 25 FP. Imbue the armament with the ancient dragons' red lightning, then throw it as a spear. Can be charged to increase its power. It belongs to this weapon alone: no Ash of War will move it onto anything else, and nothing will replace it here.

Build

Its scaling runs Str at D and Dex at D, so Str and Dex are the stats worth levelling, and you need Str 20 and Dex 40 before you can lift it. Because the skill is its own, the build has to come to the weapon rather than the other way round.

Notes

Spear whittled from the weapon wielded by Gransax. One of the legendary armaments. A great ancient dragon, Gransax once rained calamity upon the Royal Capital, the only time in historical record that Leyndell's walls have fallen. This marked the dawn of the war against the ancient dragons.

How to Get Bolt of Gransax Guide

Located in Leyndell, Royal Capital.
Exit the Erdtree Sanctuary and descend with the elevator, then jump over the street railing and down onto the building below.
The spear is on top of its gigantic version.
Warning: This item is not present in Leyndell, Ashen Capital.
It must be obtained prior to defeating Maliketh, the Black Blade.
