Skills
Skills are split across four trees: Combat, Signs, Alchemy and General. Remastered rebuilt the trees with three ranks per skill. A learned skill only works once it sits in one of the 12 skill slots on the character screen. Skills can be swapped between slots at any time.
Skill Points
Geralt earns one skill point per level and more from Places of Power. A Potion of Clearance refunds spent points and resets the skills.
Slots and Mutagens
The 12 slots sit in four groups of three. Each group links to one diamond-shaped mutagen slot. A skill of the same color as the group's mutagen raises that mutagen's bonus. Blood and Wine adds 4 more skill slots through mutations, opened by researching 2, 4, 8 and 12 mutations.
Remastered Trees
A skill unlocks once Geralt owns a connected prerequisite skill. All skill points reset when a pre-Remastered save is loaded. The Combat, Signs and Alchemy roots are open from the start, and the General tree starts from its six school techniques at the center. Every rank of a skill also gives a small tree bonus.

New skills in the Remastered trees include Three Strikes, Maiming Shot, Toxic Shock, Debilitating Poison, Potent Sting, Volatile Compound and the Wolf, Manticore and Viper School Techniques.
Before Remastered
The old trees had five columns, each a core ability followed by four learnable skills. Deeper rows needed 6, 12 and 18 points spent in that tree.
