Mutations

Mutations are the Blood and Wine character development system. They unlock through the secondary quest Turn and Face the Strange, which starts with a letter after the main quest Blood Run. The quest leads to Professor Moreau's hidden laboratory. Only one mutation can be active at a time.

How It Works

Each mutation is researched with skill points plus Greater red, green or blue mutagens. Mutations sit in connected tiers, and researching one opens the ones linked to it. A Potion of Restoration refunds the skill points spent on mutations, while the mutagens stay spent. Mutations are color-coded by tree: red Combat, blue Signs and green Alchemy. Some combine two or all three colors.

Extra Skill Slots

Strengthened Synapses is always active. It opens an extra skill slot after 2, 4, 8 and 12 researched mutations. These slots take skills that match the active mutation's colors.
