Mutagens
Mutagens are items taken from monsters. Geralt places them in the diamond-shaped mutagen slots on the character screen for a stat bonus. There are up to four mutagen slots, each linked to a group of three skill slots.
Bonuses
Each color matches a skill tree. Red adds attack power, blue adds sign intensity and green adds flat Vitality.
| Color | Tree | Lesser | Standard | Greater |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Red | Combat | +5% | +7% | +10% |
| Blue | Signs | +5% | +7% | +10% |
| Green | Alchemy | +50 | +100 | +150 |
Matching Skills
Each skill of the same color in the mutagen's group raises its bonus by 100%. Three matching skills make the bonus four times as large. A Greater Red Mutagen with three red skills gives +40% attack power. A Greater Green Mutagen with three green skills gives +600 Vitality. Skills of another color leave the mutagen's own bonus intact. The General skill Synergy raises mutagen bonuses by 10% at rank 1.
Getting Mutagens
In the base game, regular mutagens drop as Lesser mutagens from certain monsters. Three mutagens of one tier combine through alchemy into one of the next tier. Special mutagens carry the name of their monster, such as the Arachas, Archgriffin, Basilisk and Wyvern Mutagens. They give the same bonus as a Lesser mutagen of their color. They are key decoction ingredients, so keep them until every decoction is brewed.
Blood and Wine lets mutagens change color within the same tier. It also lets special mutagens be dismantled into a Lesser mutagen of their color, at the alchemy lab in the Corvo Bianco cellar. Researching mutations costs Greater mutagens.
