Decoctions
Decoctions are long-lasting buffs that Geralt brews from monster mutagens. Each one holds a single charge and adds 50 Toxicity. That Toxicity stays for as long as the decoction runs. The effects range from extra crit chance to a Quen shield that rises after a heavy hit.
How It Works
Every decoction is brewed from Dwarven Spirit, a mutagen and a few other ingredients. The mutagen usually comes from the monster the decoction is named after. Reliever's Decoction takes Lesser red, green and blue mutagens and Essence of Wraith instead.
A decoction adds 50 Toxicity, and the Basilisk Decoction adds 40. Potion Toxicity drains away, but decoction Toxicity stays until the decoction ends. Meditation clears it. Meditating with strong alcohol also refills the charge.
Reading the right book teaches many decoction formulas. Ghouls and Alghouls teaches the Alghoul Decoction, and A Few Remarks on Basilisks and Cockatrices teaches both the Basilisk and Cockatrice Decoctions.
Builds
- Alchemy. Decoctions keep Toxicity high for as long as they run. Blood and Wine's Euphoria mutation turns every point of Toxicity into +0.75% sword damage and Sign intensity. Toxic Blood makes melee attackers take 1.5% of their damage per point instead. The Manticore set raises maximum Toxicity, and its full six pieces add 1 charge to every alchemy item.
- Signs. Foglet: +25% Sign intensity in cloudy weather. Basilisk boosts a random Sign at dusk and dawn. Ancient Leshen raises Stamina regeneration with every Sign cast for the rest of the fight.
- Crits. Katakan: +10% crit chance. Doppler: +50% crit damage on attacks from behind.
- Mixed attacks. Forktail: mixing fast attacks, strong attacks and Signs grants +50% attack power to the next attack or +50% Sign intensity to the next Sign.
- Tank. Griffin raises damage resistance every time Geralt takes damage, up to a cap. Leshen returns 10% of the damage enemies deal. Wraith raises a Quen shield whenever one hit takes more than a third of Geralt's Vitality.
- Sustain. Ekimmara: 10% lifesteal. Troll: 100 Vitality regeneration, in and out of combat. Ekhidna regenerates Vitality whenever Geralt spends Stamina.
Remastered rebuilt the skill trees and reset every point, so pair a decoction with skills from the new tree.

Notes
- Chort grants full resistance to Stagger and turns a Knockdown into a Stagger.
- Noonwraith sharply shortens Knockdown, Hypnosis, Stun and Blindness.
- Arachas cuts damage taken, more so with lighter armour and a lighter load.
- Archgriffin makes a strong attack spend all of Geralt's Stamina and take a further 5% of the foe's Vitality.
- Nightwraith raises maximum Vitality by 50 for every foe killed. The bonus lasts until Geralt meditates or fast travels.
- Werewolf sharply raises Stamina regeneration on a clear, moonlit night.
- Fiend raises carry weight by 20.
- Nekker Warrior keeps the horse from panicking and adds +50% damage in mounted combat.
- Reliever's Decoction adds +10% attack power and 15% resistance against wraiths. Each hit on a specter also stops it using its abilities and turning immaterial.
- Blood and Wine's Metamorphosis mutation starts a random decoction for 120 s, at zero Toxicity, whenever Geralt applies a critical effect. Up to 3 can run at once.
- Tomira in White Orchard offers the Griffin and Troll Decoction formulas.
