Smithing Guide
Enchanted weapons require the Arcane Blacksmith Perk to upgrade.
Upgrades
Boots of the Crusader are improved at a workbench with one Corundum Ingot per improvement. The Steel Smithing perk doubles the improvement, so each quality tier needs less Smithing skill. An enchanted copy can only be improved with the Arcane Blacksmith perk.

How It Plays
The Boots of the Crusader are the heavy boots of the Crusader's Relics, the holy armor of Pelinal Whitestrake. Their enchantment makes Restoration spells cost 8 percent less to cast. Every healing spell, ward and spell against the undead becomes a little cheaper.
The bonus adds up across the set. The boots, cuirass, gauntlets and helm each make Restoration spells cost 8 percent less, so the full set cuts the cost of healing by a large share. That suits a paladin: a heavy armor warrior who heals between blows.
The boots are tempered at a workbench with a Corundum Ingot. As an enchanted artifact, they need the Arcane Blacksmith perk for tempering.
The Full Set
The heavy Crusader's Relics have five pieces. The Cuirass of the Crusader adds 10 Health and a Holy Aura: 10 percent more armor and 10 percent less damage from undead while the matched set is worn. The Gauntlets of the Crusader add 50 percent Disease Resistance. The Helm of the Crusader makes Illusion spells cheaper and prices better. The Shield of the Crusader raises a ward against spells while blocking.
Perks and Builds
The Restoration skill tree builds on the set. Novice Restoration through Master Restoration each let spells of their level be cast for half the Magicka. Regeneration makes healing spells cure 50 percent more, and Respite makes them restore Stamina as well. Necromage makes every spell more effective against the undead, a natural match for a crusader.
Quest Background
The Crusader's Relics come from the Divine Crusader Creation. The official description says the armor can be found by exploring Four Skull Lookout, far east-northeast of Markarth. In the quest Relics of the Crusader, bandits at the lookout hold the stolen relics. Oren carries the heavy Crusader's Relics and the Mace of the Crusader, while Eigorn carries the light Reforged Relics of the Crusader and the Sword of the Crusader. Defeating the bandits and looting both bodies recovers the full collection.
The relics can also carry a heavy penalty to Stamina regeneration and carry weight. The quest The Pilgrim's Path lifts it with a journey to pray at nine shrines across Skyrim.
Lore
The Crusader's Relics belonged to Pelinal Whitestrake, the Divine Crusader and champion of the slave queen Alessia in the First Era. Pelinal used them in his battle against Umaril the Unfeathered, an Ayleid sorcerer king. After Pelinal's death, the relics were scattered and lost.
Near the end of the Third Era, Umaril returned. The Hero of Kvatch gathered the relics again, reformed the Knights of the Nine and destroyed Umaril for good.
Notes
A reforged version of the Crusader's Relics also exists.
