How It Plays
Rahgot is the orichalcum dragon priest mask, and it is the warrior's mask of the set. Its one effect is a large boost to Stamina. Stamina fuels power attacks, sprinting, shield bashes and the time a bow can stay drawn. A bigger pool means more of each before the bar runs dry.
The bonus is as strong as a Peerless Fortify Stamina enchantment. That is the highest level an ordinary enchantment can reach. Rahgot gives it on a full heavy helmet.
A two-handed fighter feels the difference at once. Each power attack with a greatsword or warhammer burns a large chunk of Stamina. With Rahgot, a warrior can chain more power attacks before falling back to normal swings. A dual wielder gains in the same way from dual power attacks.
The extra Stamina also helps outside combat. A character can sprint longer across the tundra or away from a dragon. A character on foot can carry heavy loot to the next town with fewer stops.
Perks and Builds
Rahgot pairs with the Heavy Armor Skill tree. Juggernaut raises its rating. Conditioning removes the weight of heavy armor and its effect on sprinting. Well Fitted adds a set bonus for four heavy pieces, and the mask fills the head slot.
The Two-Handed Skill tree spends the Stamina that Rahgot provides. Devastating Blow, Great Critical Charge and Sweep all ride on power attacks. The One-Handed Skill tree has its own power attack perks, such as Savage Strike and Dual Savagery. The Block Skill perk Shield Charge drains Stamina while sprinting with a shield, and Rahgot extends that charge.
An archer can wear Rahgot too. Steady Hand slows time while aiming, and holding the zoom drains Stamina. A larger pool lets a bow user hold the slow time longer. A Redguard gains the most, since the race already regenerates Stamina faster.
Compared with Other Masks
Rahgot is one of only two helmets in the game with a Fortify Stamina enchantment. The other is the Visage of Mzund from the Dragonborn DLC, which grants a little less Stamina. Rahgot is the stronger of the two.
Konahrik is the other warrior mask. It saves the wearer at low health and has a higher base rating. Rahgot helps in every swing of every fight, while Konahrik waits for a crisis. Otar resists the elements, and Hevnoraak blocks disease and poison.
The mage masks Morokei, Nahkriin and Vokun serve casters. Rahgot is the only base game mask that serves a pure fighter's main resource.
Quest Background
Forelhost is a Nordic stronghold on a mountain peak south of Riften. A soldier named Captain Valmir has set up a camp in its courtyard. He says the army sent him to recover a powerful artifact for the war. The ruin, he says, was the last great bastion of the Dragon Cult, and its leader's mask was reported to be quite powerful. He asks for help, since he cannot do the job alone.
The ruin is haunted by the ghosts of cultists. Skorm Snow-Strider's Journal lies along the first path. It tells how Skorm's army took the fortress long ago. The defenders collapsed the entrance and killed themselves rather than surrender. They also locked and poisoned the well. Skorm chose to seal the survivors inside rather than search the crypts for the key.
The path leads through the crypts and down the well into the Refectory. A glass claw opens the puzzle door. Rahgot waits behind it with four draugr. He is a level 50 fire caster who throws Fireball and Incinerate and summons a Flame Atronach. His body holds the mask, a Dragon Priest Staff and the key to the battlements.
The word wall on the battlements teaches part of Storm Call. Below, Valmir is talking to a soldier of the other side. He now wears that side's uniform and is sending the soldier on the same errand. Valmir is an impostor. Valmir's Orders on his body show that he was sent to take the mask to Labyrinthian. The quest ends once both men are dead.
Lore
Rahgot led the last remnants of the Dragon Cult in Skyrim. A legion of King Harald's soldiers found his hidden stronghold and laid siege to it. The name Rahgot means "Anger" in the dragon language.
Valmir's real goal hints at the shrine of Bromjunaar Sanctuary in Labyrinthian. Rahgot's mask is one of the eight that reveal Konahrik there.
Bugs
Placing Rahgot on its bust at the shrine removes any tempering. Temper the mask only after Konahrik is claimed.
Dragon priest masks share their equipment slot with circlets. A few helmets that should block a mask, such as the Jagged Crown, can be worn together with one.
Gameplay Tips
- Temper it at a workbench with one Orichalcum Ingot. The Daedric Smithing perk doubles the improvement, and the Arcane Blacksmith perk is needed.
- Place it on its bust at the shrine in Bromjunaar Sanctuary, together with the other seven masks of Skyrim, to reveal Konahrik.
Smithing Guide
Enchanted weapons require the Arcane Blacksmith Perk to upgrade.
Upgrades
Rahgot is improved at a workbench with one Orichalcum Ingot per improvement. The Daedric Smithing perk doubles the improvement, so each quality tier needs less Smithing skill. An enchanted copy can only be improved with the Arcane Blacksmith perk.
