Axolotl
| Axolotl | |
|---|---|
| Class | Frontal Cortex |
| Tier | Iconic |
| Location | Little China |
Axolotl cuts the cooldown of every installed implant each time V takes an enemy down. It is the Iconic variant of the Newton Module, with a much stronger cut. A Sandevistan or a Berserk comes back sooner after every kill. A long fight turns into a chain of active abilities. Almost any build with an operating system or other active cyberware gains from it. Axolotl is a late game reward from Regina Jones in Watson, and Phantom Liberty owners can also buy it from the ripperdocs in Dogtown.
Effect
Axolotl is a passive Frontal Cortex implant. Each time V neutralizes an enemy, the cooldown of all installed cyberware drops at once by a set percentage. The cut applies to everything with a cooldown, so the operating system and other active implants all recover faster together. Each new kill cuts the cooldowns again. A string of quick kills can bring a Sandevistan or a Berserk back long before its normal cooldown ends. The higher tiers raise the size of each cut. Its extra stat bonuses favour quiet and close fighting. The first bonus raises Bonus Stealth Damage. Melee Damage arrives at Tier 2 and higher. Aim Speed needs the Driver Update perk.

Upgrades
Axolotl comes in Tiers 4 and 5, with plus steps in between. Each step raises the cooldown cut. The capacity cost stays the same at every tier. A ripperdoc can upgrade it with crafting components, which is the only way to reach Tier 5++. The Last Call reward arrives at Tier 4 below level 33 and at Tier 5 from level 33. Its high capacity cost is easier to fit after a few Cyberware Capacity Shards, or with the Edgerunner perk.
The table shows what each tier step of Axolotl costs at a ripperdoc.
| Upgrade | Components | Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Tier 4 to Tier 4+ | 50 Tier 4 components | - |
| Tier 4+ to Tier 5 | 37 Tier 5 components | - |
| Tier 5 to Tier 5+ | 50 Tier 5 components | - |
| Tier 5+ to Tier 5++ | 125 Tier 5 components | Phantom Liberty |
Character Builds
Axolotl fits every attribute, because cooldowns matter in every build. Sandevistan users get more slowed time per fight. Berserk users can trigger it again sooner. A Kerenzikov comes back faster between slides and dodges. The Technical Ability perk Cyborg cuts all cyberware cooldowns further when every slot is filled. Extended Warranty adds duration to all cyberware effects, so each use lasts longer while Axolotl makes each use come sooner.
Build guides rate Axolotl highly for most builds, and melee guides name it as a core pick. Builds that kill quickly gain the most, because every kill shortens the wait.
Select a Build
Modelled on David from the anime, the build packs in as much cyberware as it can carry. The Sandevistan slows time while pistols and Gorilla Arms tear through enemies. Technical Ability perks cut cyberware cooldowns so the Sandevistan comes back fast.

Lore
The in-game line for Axolotl reads: "Best things come to those who don't have to wait." It shares this line with the Newton Module, the common implant it improves on.
Axolotl is a parting gift from Regina Jones. Regina is a fixer in Watson and a former reporter for FTF Radio. Her gigs send V all over Watson. She also sends V after the cyberpsychos loose in the city. When V finishes every one of her Watson gigs, the job Last Call follows. Axolotl then waits for V in the stash at V's apartment.
Notes
- The Newton Module is the common implant behind Axolotl. It gives the same kind of cooldown cut at a much lower strength.
