ProxiShield cuts the damage V takes from enemies who attack from close range. The closer the attacker stands, the bigger the cut. Melee fighters, shotgun users and anyone who charges into a crowd get the most out of it. It is available from the very start, so it can protect V through the whole game. A Body character also gains extra Health from it for each point of Body. ProxiShield is an early game implant that every ripperdoc in Night City and Dogtown sells from the start.
Effect
ProxiShield is always on and needs no trigger. An enemy attacking from 3 meters or closer deals reduced damage. Past 3 meters, the reduction shrinks step by step and reaches zero at 6 meters. Enemies attacking from farther away deal their full damage.
At Tier 1, the cut at close range is 8%. At Tier 5, it reaches 20%. That makes ProxiShield strongest exactly where melee builds spend their time. It also helps when an enemy rushes V with a blade or a shotgun.
ProxiShield is attuned to Body. Each point of Body adds half a point of Health. The implant also adds a block of armor that rises with each tier.
Its stat bonuses add Melee Damage and, from Tier 2, Melee Damage Resistance. Both suit a close-range build.

Upgrades
Ripperdocs stock ProxiShield at Tier 1 below level 10, then Tier 2 from level 10, Tier 3 from 20, Tier 4 from 30 and Tier 5 from 40. An installed copy can be raised a tier at a ripperdoc with the matching item components. Each tier raises the close range cut and the armor. The Driver Update perk adds one more stat bonus. The Chipware Connoisseur perk offers a choice of bonuses when V upgrades the implant. V gains Cyberware Capacity with each level and from Cyberware Capacity Shards. The Edgerunner perk lets V go over the limit at the cost of some max Health.
The table shows what each tier step of ProxiShield costs at a ripperdoc.

Character Builds
ProxiShield belongs in a Body build that fights up close. Blunt weapons, shotguns and Gorilla Arms keep V in the range where the shield works. Like A Feather removes the movement penalty for shotguns. Rip And Tear links shotgun hits and quick melee attacks for extra damage. Juggernaut adds movement speed and damage while Adrenaline Rush is active.
Blade users in Reflexes also stay close to their targets. Mantis Blades and katanas pair well with ProxiShield for that reason. Other Integumentary System implants add to the defense. The Pain Editor cuts damage from every range. The Painducer spreads part of each hit over time. In Technical Ability, All Things Cyber lowers the capacity cost of Integumentary System implants, and Chrome Constitution cuts damage once every Integumentary System and Skeleton slot is full.
Select a Build
A shotgun blows enemies apart, and a club, bat, hammer or bare fists beat down whatever survives. Gorilla Arms keep the character armed in high security areas.
Attributes: Body 20, Reflexes 18, Technical Ability 20, Intelligence 3, Cool 20.
