Para Bellum raises V's total armor by a percentage. Every other armor source in the build therefore gives a little more. The more chrome V already wears, the bigger the gain becomes. It suits a tanky character who has filled the Integumentary System and Skeleton slots with armored implants. A Technical Ability build gets extra armor from it for each attribute point as well. Para Bellum is a mid game implant that every ripperdoc in Night City and Dogtown sells from level 20. With Phantom Liberty, a copy also lies in a toolbox in the area of the gig Dogtown Saints.
Effect
Para Bellum is a passive implant. It multiplies V's armor total, so its value depends on the rest of the build. At Tier 3 it adds 8% armor, and the bonus grows with each tier after that.
Armor reduces the damage V takes from each hit. A character with little armor gains only a few points from the percentage. A character with many armored implants gains much more from the same percentage.
Para Bellum is attuned to Technical Ability. Each point of Technical Ability adds half a point of flat armor as well. The implant also adds its own block of armor, which rises with each tier.
Its stat bonuses add Health and, from Tier 2, Melee Damage Resistance.

Upgrades
Ripperdocs sell Para Bellum at Tier 3 from level 20, Tier 4 from level 30 and Tier 5 from level 40. The copy in the Dogtown Saints toolbox follows V's level in the same way. An installed copy can be raised a tier at a ripperdoc with the matching item components. Each tier raises the armor percentage and the flat armor. The Driver Update perk adds one more stat bonus. The Chipware Connoisseur perk offers a choice of bonuses when V upgrades the implant. V gains Cyberware Capacity with each level and from Cyberware Capacity Shards. The Edgerunner perk lets V go over the limit at the cost of some max Health.
The table shows what each tier step of Para Bellum costs at a ripperdoc.
| Upgrade | Components | Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Tier 3 to Tier 3+ | 50 Tier 3 components | - |
| Tier 3+ to Tier 4 | 37 Tier 4 components | - |
| Tier 4 to Tier 4+ | 50 Tier 4 components | - |
| Tier 4+ to Tier 5 | 37 Tier 5 components | - |
| Tier 5 to Tier 5+ | 50 Tier 5 components | - |
| Tier 5+ to Tier 5++ | 125 Tier 5 components | Phantom Liberty |
Character Builds
Para Bellum belongs in a Technical Ability build that stacks armor. License To Chrome adds a second Skeleton slot, boosts the stats of all Skeleton implants and grants 40 flat armor. That flat armor is also raised by Para Bellum. All Things Cyber lowers the capacity cost of Integumentary System and Skeleton implants by 20%. Chrome Constitution cuts incoming damage by 5% when every Integumentary System and Skeleton slot is filled.
The armored implants that raise the base for Para Bellum include Subdermal Armor, the Pain Editor and the Painducer. Scar Coalescer, also a Skeleton implant, adds more armor while V's Health is low. Scarab adds a large amount of armor while V is crouched.

Ping reveals enemies behind walls, and Tech weapon shots pierce the cover between them. A charged shot released at the click of Bolt deals the most damage. With a Militech Sandevistan, the charge starts first and time slows at half charge so the Bolt shot lands as a headshot.
