The Peripheral Inverse makes V hardest to hurt at point-blank range. Enemies attacking from right next to V deal far less damage. The protection fades as the attacker steps back and is gone at six meters. It suits melee fighters and shotgun users who spend the whole fight in an enemy's face. It is the Iconic variant of the ProxiShield, with a much stronger effect and a much heavier capacity cost. The Peripheral Inverse is a late game Phantom Liberty implant, sold by the ripperdocs in Dogtown and found in Dogtown airdrops.
Effect
The Peripheral Inverse is a passive implant. It checks how far away each attacking enemy is. An enemy within three meters deals much less damage to V. At Tier 4 the cut is about a third. At Tier 5++ it reaches nearly half. Between three and six meters the cut shrinks step by step. At six meters and beyond it is gone.
The effect rewards staying close. A melee fighter who stands next to the target takes the full benefit. A shotgun user who closes in also gains from it.
The ProxiShield works the same way with a smaller cut. The Peripheral Inverse gives a much larger cut at the same distance.
The implant also adds Armor, which grows with each tier. It is attuned to Body. Each Body point adds half a point of Health. A character with full Body gains ten extra Health.

Upgrades
The Peripheral Inverse comes in Tiers 4 and 5, with plus steps in between. Each step raises the damage cut and the Armor. The capacity cost stays the same at every tier. That cost is much heavier than the cost of the ProxiShield. Cyberware Capacity Shards, the Edgerunner perk and All Things Cyber help make room for it. A ripperdoc can upgrade it with crafting components up to Tier 5++.
The table shows what each tier step of Peripheral Inverse costs at a ripperdoc.
| Upgrade | Components | Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Tier 4 to Tier 4+ | 40 Tier 4 components | - |
| Tier 4+ to Tier 5 | 30 Tier 5 components | - |
| Tier 5 to Tier 5+ | 40 Tier 5 components | - |
| Tier 5+ to Tier 5++ | 100 Tier 5 components | Phantom Liberty |
Character Builds
The Peripheral Inverse belongs in a close-range Body build. A Berserk pairs well with it, since a Berserk locks V into melee range anyway. Blunt weapons, blades, Gorilla Arms and Mantis Blades all keep V within three meters. Shotguns also suit it. Rip And Tear links shotgun shots and Quick Melee Attacks for extra damage. Like A Feather removes the movement penalty for shotguns.
Technical Ability perks help with the cost and the slot. All Things Cyber cuts the capacity cost of Integumentary System and Skeleton cyberware. Chrome Constitution lowers incoming damage when every Integumentary System and Skeleton slot is filled. Together they make room for this heavy implant and add more protection.

Mantis Blades are the main weapon, so both weapon slots stay free for guns. Dashes and the Mantis Blades leap reach enemies fast, and Finishers restore Health. A Sandevistan slows time when a fight gets crowded.
Attributes: Body 20, Reflexes 20, Technical Ability 20, Intelligence 3, Cool 18.

Lore
The Peripheral Inverse shares its in-game line with the ProxiShield: "Teach them to respect your personal space." The line sums up the idea of both implants. Enemies who come close pay for it, because their attacks lose much of their force. The Peripheral Inverse is one of the Iconic implants that arrived with Phantom Liberty and are sold only inside Dogtown.
Notes
- The ProxiShield is the base implant. It costs far less capacity and gives a smaller damage cut at close range.
