Temper it at a workbench with one Gold Ingot. The Daedric Smithing perk doubles the improvement.
Forge it with the Daedric Smithing perk from 2 Gold Ingots, 4 Refined Moonstone, 1 Daedra Heart and 4 Leather Strips, after reading Joften's Notes.
Its 42 armor beats the 40 of Orcish Armor.
Four Golden Saint pieces count as a matched set for the Matching Set perk, which adds 25% armor.
