Rook is an Iconic Militech M-10AF Lexington from Phantom Liberty, fully customised with a fixed scope and silencer. It rewards a steady hand. Each quick hit in a row raises V's crit chance, but each one also makes the gun less accurate. A single miss removes the whole bonus. Rook is a pistol for players who can keep their aim on target through the recoil. Many hits in a row lead to a steady stream of crits. It sits in a hidden cache under The Needle in Dogtown. A code from a side job opens it. Rook is a Phantom Liberty find in a hidden cache in the underground section of The Needle in Dogtown. It is tied to the side job Voodoo Treasure.

Combat

Rook is a Power pistol with a fixed long scope and a fixed silencer. Every quick hit in a row adds a stack of crit chance and adds recoil at the same time. The stacks only last a moment, so the bonus needs fast, continuous hits. Missing a shot removes all stacks at once.

Rook is therefore strongest at close and mid range, where hits are easy to land and the extra recoil matters less. Moving closer during a long fight helps V keep hitting. The silencer and scope work well for a first shot from stealth. The crit bonus then helps with the follow-up shots.

How to Get Rook Guide

  • Reach Dogtown during Phantom Liberty.
  • Go to the underground section of The Needle, near the BD SHOCK store.
  • Find the secret compartment.
  • Enter the code 941229 to open it.
  • Take Rook from the cache.

Character Builds

Pistols use the Cool tree. Focus adds headshot damage and unlocks Focus mode, which turns on when V aims at full Stamina. Deep Breath slows time while Focus is active, which makes long series of hits easier. Deadeye adds more headshot damage. Head To Head refreshes Focus after each aimed kill. Run 'N' Gun lets V hip-fire without spending Stamina.

Recoil control is the key to landing hit after hit. Shock Absorber and Immovable Force both cut recoil, which offsets the recoil Rook gains with each hit. Kiroshi Cockatrice Optics add crit chance in addition to the stacks. Kerenzikov lets V aim and fire while sliding or dodging, with time slowed. It helps V land the next hit without missing.

Lore

The item text describes Rook as fully customised with a scope and silencer. It sums up the special effect in a few words: keep 'er steady, because one miss and the effect is gone. The path to Rook starts in the main job I've Seen That Face Before. V can listen in on the Cassel twins, Aurore and Aymeric, by ignoring Reed's calls. Later, a file taken from Aurore leads to the side job Voodoo Treasure. The job points to a secret compartment in The Needle. The compartment opens with the code 941229. Players who already know the code can open it at any time, even before the job.

Notes

  • The code can be learned through the side job Voodoo Treasure, but it works at any time.
  • Rook is the Iconic variant of the Militech M-10AF Lexington.
