Chaos is Royce's Tech pistol, and it lives up to its name. Every reload gives it a new random crit chance, damage type and status effect chance. Its own description simply wishes the user good luck. Each magazine works a little differently, so V has to adapt during the fight. It also comes very early in the main story. Chaos is an early main-story weapon from The Pickup. It can be looted from the Maelstrom boss Royce.
Combat
Chaos fires like any Kenshin. A tap fires a normal shot. Holding the trigger charges a stronger Tech round that can go through cover. The special part comes at each reload. The pistol picks a new random damage type, so two magazines in a row rarely behave the same. Crit chance and status effect chance change at the same time.
V needs to watch which values each reload gives. A good result is worth using until the magazine is empty. A poor one can be cut short with an early reload. The high headshot bonus and strong armor penetration stay the same after every reload.
How to Get Chaos Guide
- Start the main job The Pickup after meeting Dexter DeShawn.
- Meet Jackie at the All Foods factory in Northside and go inside.
- Make sure Royce dies, either in a fight with Maelstrom or in the Militech raid after a deal.
- Loot Chaos from Royce's body.
Chaos Map Location and Quest Guide
- Start the main job The Pickup after meeting Dexter DeShawn.
- Meet Jackie at the All Foods Factory in Northside.
- Use the intercom at the gate to get inside.
- Take the elevator up to the Maelstrom office and ask about the Flathead.
- Turn the deal hostile, by fighting or by paying with the infected credchip, so that Royce comes after V.
- Kill Royce during the talk, or defeat him later in his exoskeleton.
- Loot Chaos from Royce's body.

Character Builds
Chaos works best in a Technical Ability build that charges its shots. Bolt makes a shot count as fully charged if the trigger is released just before full charge. Shock Value makes Bolts ignore armor, and Lightning Storm speeds up charging after each Bolt. From the Cool tree, Focus and Deadeye add headshot damage for pistols.
Cyberware that adds flat crit chance makes the random crit chance less of a gamble. Kiroshi Cockatrice Optics add a fixed crit chance bonus on every magazine. Kiroshi Stalker Optics link to an equipped Tech weapon and reveal enemies behind cover. A charged shot can then hit them through the wall.

Lore
Chaos is the Iconic variant of the Arasaka JKE-X2 Kenshin and the signature weapon of Royce, the leader of Maelstrom at the All Foods factory. In The Pickup, Dexter DeShawn sends V and Jackie to buy a stolen Militech Flathead combat bot from Royce's gang. The deal can end peacefully or in a firefight. Royce has to die for the pistol to drop. He can die in a fight with the gang or in the Militech raid that follows a deal.
