Erebus is a prototype submachine gun from the Cynosure facility, and its power comes from beyond the Blackwall. It fires a shotgun-like spread at a machine gun's rate of fire. When a badly wounded enemy is hit, the gun uploads the Blackwall Gateway quickhack and kills them on the spot. Every so often it also hacks a target's cyberware on its own, and the gun even talks. There is only one chance to build it. Erebus is a late Phantom Liberty weapon. It is built from parts found in Somewhat Damaged, on the route that sides with Reed.
Combat
Erebus fires a fast stream of rounds, and each round splits into a spread of projectiles. It has a shotgun-like spread with an SMG's rate of fire, so it is brutal at close and mid range. The Iconic effect also adds a little damage and a little spread.
Its greatest strength is the AI. Any normal enemy whose Health falls low enough is finished by an automatic Blackwall Gateway upload. V only has to bring a target close to death, and the gun does the rest. Each hit also has a small chance to upload Cyberware Malfunction at any Health level. The large magazine lasts long enough to bring a whole group down to that low Health.
How to Get Erebus Guide
- Side with Reed in Phantom Liberty, and accept Yoko's offer during Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos.
- In Somewhat Damaged, restore power with the fuse box in the storage room near the maintenance room.
- Enter the maintenance room and take the Erebus schematic from the table.
- After the Cerberus mech is shut down, loot the Behavioral System Component from it.
- Rest for a day to start This Corrosion, then give the component to Yoko.
- Collect the decoded component from Yoko and craft Erebus.

Crafting Spec
The Erebus spec lies in the maintenance room near Engineering in the Cynosure facility during Somewhat Damaged. The spec lets V craft Erebus in the crafting menu. Every spec in the game is listed on the Crafting Specs page.
The table shows what crafting Erebus costs at each tier.
| Tier | Components |
|---|---|
| Tier 5 | 40 Tier 5 components |
Upgrades
Erebus is crafted from its spec and the decoded component. Once crafted, it can be raised through the tiers in the Upgrades section of the crafting menu like every Iconic weapon. The last step, from Tier 5+ to Tier 5++, costs 200 Tier 5 components.
The table shows what each tier step of Erebus costs.

Character Builds
Erebus works best with the SMG perks in the Reflexes tree. Mind Over Matter cuts recoil while aiming. Tunnel Vision adds range and accuracy, which helps keep the wide spread on target. Sharpshooter improves weapon control and gains a stack with every hit. Submachine Fun reloads an SMG automatically when V swaps to it and raises its fire rate afterwards. Gundancer removes the slowdown while aiming.
The gun finishes wounded enemies by itself. Raw damage that brings targets down to low Health therefore matters most. Kiroshi Cockatrice Optics add crit chance. The Dynalar Sandevistan adds crit chance and crit damage while time slows. Shock Absorber and Immovable Force reduce recoil. Immovable Force also reduces the spread.

Lore
Erebus is an Iconic Power submachine gun with an AI inside it. That AI hacks the combat cyberware of the enemies it shoots.
The schematic lies deep inside the Cynosure facility. V explores the facility in Somewhat Damaged while a Cerberus mech hunts through the halls. The schematic alone is not enough. V also needs the Behavioral System Component from the mech itself. In the follow-up job This Corrosion, the netrunner Yoko decodes that component. She warns V about the darkness inside it and tells V not to let NetWatch find out.
Notes
- The decoded component can build either Erebus or the Militech Canto cyberdeck, but not both.
- Erebus speaks to V with lines from the AI living inside it.
