Bait pulls a single enemy away from the group and walks them toward V. A lone guard who comes looking is easy to take down quietly. It costs little RAM, and it leaves no trace. It suits a stealth build that likes to thin out a camp one guard at a time. At higher tiers it also drags enemies out of cover during a fight. Bait is an early game quickhack that every netrunner vendor sells from the start.
Effect
Bait is a covert quickhack. V uploads it to an enemy, and that enemy walks to V's current position. It is untraceable, so the upload does not start a trace. At Tier 1 the enemy arrives in an Alerted state and is already on guard. From Tier 2 the enemy comes over without being alerted. That makes a quiet takedown much easier.
Tier 3 lets V use Bait during combat. In a fight it forces the target out of cover. An enemy who hides behind a wall must then step into the open.
Tier 4 changes the destination when V uploads Bait through a camera. The enemy then walks to the camera instead of to V. V can send guards toward a spot far away from the real route.
Tier 5 adds a way to cancel the lure. If V uploads Bait a second time to the same enemy outside combat, the enemy stops and turns back. This helps when the lure goes wrong or another guard is watching.
Bait combos with Request Backup. Request Backup at Tier 5 calls up to four enemies over when V uploads it to an enemy already affected by Bait. The pair can pull several guards to one spot.
How to Get Bait Guide
- Buy Bait or its crafting spec from any netrunner vendor.
- Breach Access Points with Breach Protocol for a chance at quickhacks.
- With Phantom Liberty, watch for the Iconic crafting spec from around level 51.

Crafting Spec
Netrunner vendors sell the Bait spec. The spec lets V craft Bait in the crafting menu. Every spec in the game is listed on the Crafting Specs page.
Upgrades
Bait comes in Tiers 1 to 5, plus an Iconic variant. Tier 2 removes the Alerted state. Tier 3 allows use in combat. Tier 4 redirects the enemy to a camera. Tier 5 lets a second upload send the enemy back. The Iconic variant keeps every effect and costs one less RAM.
Netrunner vendors sell Bait and its crafting specs. Higher tiers need quickhack components of the matching tier to craft. Breach Protocol on an Access Point can also reward quickhacks. Enemy netrunners can drop quickhacks and specs as well. The Iconic variant needs Phantom Liberty. Netrunners begin to offer Iconic quickhacks at around level 51. Enemy netrunners can drop the Iconic crafting spec too, and crafting it takes Tier 5 quickhack components.
Character Builds
Bait belongs in a stealth build with points in Intelligence. Eye In The Sky highlights nearby cameras. It also lowers the RAM cost and raises the duration of Covert quickhacks that V uploads through a camera. Bait at Tier 4 and above sends the enemy to that camera, so the two fit well together.
Hack Queue lets V queue a second quickhack on the same enemy. Embedded Exploit adds quickhack damage against enemies affected by Covert quickhacks. A lured enemy therefore takes more damage if the plan turns loud. Icepick lowers the RAM cost of Combat quickhacks on enemies affected by Covert quickhacks.
Bait pairs well with takedowns. Shadowrunner removes all trace progress after a Takedown. Request Backup and Sonic Shock are other Covert quickhacks that move or hide enemies.
Select a Build
Quickhacks such as Synapse Burnout and Cyberware Malfunction do the main damage. Two pistols held at once cover the gaps while RAM recovers. Overclock spends Health in place of RAM when a fight drags on.

Lore
The in-game description quotes Cracker Jack. By the time the lured enemy arrives, the line says, the hacker is already gone. Cracker Jack adds that advanced tech often looks a lot like magic.
Notes
- Bait at Tier 1 brings the enemy over already alerted, so a quiet approach works best from Tier 2.
