Synapse Burnout overloads an enemy's brain and deals heavy damage. Its damage grows with every unit of RAM that V has already spent. A netrunner who has just emptied the RAM bar on other quickhacks can then finish the fight with one huge hit. At the highest tier it grows even stronger during Overclock, the mode that lets V hack with Health instead of RAM. It suits a late game Intelligence build that plays aggressively and burns through its RAM. Synapse Burnout is a mid game quickhack that netrunner vendors sell from Tier 3 onward, and V can also take a copy during the job The Pickup.
Effect
Synapse Burnout is a combat quickhack. V uploads it to one enemy, and they take heavy Physical damage. The upload is slow.
The damage rises by 10% for each unit of RAM that V has spent at that moment. The bonus can reach 300%. The bonus is measured when the upload ends, not when it starts. RAM that recovers during the upload therefore lowers the hit. Synapse Burnout hits hardest right after V has spent most of the RAM bar on other quickhacks. It is weakest as the first upload of a fight.
Tier 4 rewards a kill. When Synapse Burnout finishes an enemy, its RAM cost drops by 2 for fifteen seconds. This stacks three times, so a chain of kills makes each upload cheaper.
Tier 5 ties it to Overclock. While Overclock is active, the bonus from spent RAM grows by 100%. Each kill with Synapse Burnout also extends Overclock by three seconds. The Iconic variant raises the maximum bonus from spent RAM to 400%.
The RAM cost is high for a combat quickhack and climbs at each tier.
How to Get Synapse Burnout Guide
- In The Pickup, breach the Militech datashard from Meredith Stout and copy the infected data.
- Buy Synapse Burnout or its crafting spec from a netrunner vendor once Tier 3 stock appears.
- Breach Access Points with Breach Protocol for a chance at quickhacks.
- With Phantom Liberty, watch netrunner stock for the Iconic variant from around level 51.
Synapse Burnout Map Location and Quest Guide
- Start the main job The Pickup after The Ride.
- Call the Militech agent Meredith Stout before going to the All Foods Factory.
- Meet Meredith near the All Foods Factory in Northside and answer her questions.
- Accept her offer and take the Militech Credchip.
- Breach the credchip with Breach Protocol.
- Pick the copy outcome in that breach. Removing the daemon as well only works in the same breach.
- Synapse Burnout joins V's quickhacks from the copied data.

Crafting Spec
Netrunner vendors sell the Synapse Burnout spec. The spec lets V craft Synapse Burnout in the crafting menu. Every spec in the game is listed on the Crafting Specs page.
Upgrades
Synapse Burnout comes in Tiers 3 to 5, plus an Iconic variant. Tier 4 adds the RAM discount after kills. Tier 5 adds the Overclock bonus and the Overclock extension. The Iconic variant keeps every effect and raises the damage cap.
Netrunner vendors sell Synapse Burnout and its crafting specs. Higher tiers need quickhack components of the matching tier to craft. Breach Protocol on an Access Point can also reward quickhacks. Enemy netrunners can drop quickhacks and specs as well. The Iconic variant needs Phantom Liberty. Netrunners begin to offer Iconic quickhacks at around level 51, and their stock rotates. Crafting the Iconic variant takes Tier 5 quickhack components.
Character Builds
Synapse Burnout belongs in an Intelligence build built around Overclock. Overclock lets V keep uploading with too little RAM, paying with Health for each unit over the limit. Power Surge restores Health the moment Overclock starts. Sublimation turns RAM recovery into Health regen while Overclock is active. Race Against Mind adds quickhack damage as V's Health drops during Overclock. Blood Daemon restores Health for each quickhack queued on an enemy when V neutralizes them during Overclock.
Cheap quickhacks spend RAM first and raise the later hit. Cyberware Malfunction, Short Circuit and Overheat all cost RAM and add their own damage or debuffs. Embedded Exploit adds quickhack damage against enemies affected by Control or Covert quickhacks. System Overwhelm adds damage for each different quickhack and damage over time effect on the target. Speculation returns RAM when a Combat quickhack such as Synapse Burnout finishes an enemy.
Hack Queue and Queue Acceleration let V line up other quickhacks before Synapse Burnout on the same target.
Select a Build
Quickhacks such as Synapse Burnout and Cyberware Malfunction do the main damage. Two pistols held at once cover the gaps while RAM recovers. Overclock spends Health in place of RAM when a fight drags on.

Lore
The in-game description compares it to a stroke. The brain suffers paresis, problems with sight and speech, and even a loss of balance.
V can meet the program early in the story. In The Pickup, Meredith Stout hands V a Militech datashard. The data on the shard is infected. If V breaches the shard and copies the infected data, V keeps a copy of Synapse Burnout.
Notes
- The spent RAM bonus is measured at the end of the upload.
