Ping shows V who and what is connected to the local network. Every enemy and device on that network lights up for a short time. It gives a netrunner a full picture of an area before the first shot. It suits a stealth build, since it is untraceable and costs little RAM. At higher tiers it also helps Smart weapons lock on faster and lets V hack devices through walls. Ping is an early game quickhack that V receives in the job The Gift, and every netrunner vendor sells it afterwards.
Effect
Ping is a covert quickhack. V uploads it to one enemy or device, and the network around that target is revealed. Every enemy and device connected to the same network is highlighted for the duration. V can then plan a route or pick targets before moving in. Ping is untraceable, so uploading it does not start a trace by enemy netrunners.
Ping also finds Access Points. An Access Point is a physical port on the local network that V can breach. Breach Protocol at an Access Point can reward eddies, quickhack crafting components and sometimes new quickhacks.
The tiers change Ping in two steps. Tier 3 adds 25% lock-on speed for Smart weapons against pinged enemies. It also makes the highlight last longer. Tier 5 highlights devices and lets V quickhack them through walls. The highlight lasts longer again at Tier 5. The Iconic variant holds it longest of all.
The RAM cost rises a little with each tier. The upload is quick at every tier. The Iconic variant cuts the RAM cost by 3, which brings it back to the price of the first tier.
How to Get Ping Guide
- Complete The Gift, where Yoko Tsuru gives V a Tier 1 copy.
- Buy higher tiers or their crafting specs from any netrunner vendor.
- Breach Access Points with Breach Protocol for a chance at more quickhacks.
- With Phantom Liberty, check netrunner stock from around level 51 for the Iconic variant.
Ping Map Location and Quest Guide
- Take T-Bug's call near the end of the main job The Rescue to start the side job The Gift.
- Go to the Kabuki Roundabout in Watson.
- Climb the stairs to the upper level of the round building to reach the netrunner shop.
- Ask Yoko Tsuru at the counter about the gift left for V.
- Take the Ping quickhack from Yoko's stock.
- Equip Ping in V's cyberdeck.
- Upload Ping to the camera, then hack the Access Point at the end of the counter.

Crafting Spec
Netrunner vendors sell the Ping spec. The spec lets V craft Ping in the crafting menu. Every spec in the game is listed on the Crafting Specs page.
Upgrades
Ping comes in Tier 1, Tier 3 and Tier 5, plus an Iconic variant. Tier 3 adds the Smart weapon lock-on bonus and a longer highlight. Tier 5 adds hacking devices through walls and an even longer highlight. The Iconic variant keeps every Tier 5 effect, holds the highlight much longer and costs less RAM.
Netrunner vendors sell Ping and its crafting specs. Higher tiers need quickhack components of the matching tier to craft. Breach Protocol on an Access Point can also reward quickhacks. Enemy netrunners can drop quickhacks and specs as well. The Iconic variant needs Phantom Liberty. Netrunners begin to offer Iconic quickhacks at around level 51, and their stock rotates. Enemy netrunners can drop the Iconic crafting spec too. Crafting the Iconic variant takes Tier 5 quickhack components.
Character Builds
Ping belongs in an Intelligence build, but any character with a cyberdeck can use it. Eye In The Sky highlights nearby Access Points and cameras on its own. It also makes Covert quickhacks cheaper and longer lasting when V uploads them through a camera. Ping is a Covert quickhack, so it gains from that bonus.
Embedded Exploit adds quickhack damage against enemies affected by Covert quickhacks. A pinged enemy therefore takes more damage from the quickhacks that follow. Icepick lowers the RAM cost of Combat quickhacks used on enemies affected by Covert quickhacks. Ping makes those Combat quickhacks cheaper on every enemy it touches.
Hack Queue lets V queue a second quickhack on the same enemy. Ping can open the queue, and a damage quickhack can follow it. Queue Hack Root lowers the RAM cost of the first quickhack of each new category in a queue. A queue that mixes Ping with Combat and Control quickhacks gains from it. System Overwhelm adds quickhack damage for each different quickhack affecting the target.
Ping also works with Smart weapons from Tier 3 onward. Acquisition Specialist widens the Smart weapon reticle and speeds up lock-on. Target Lock Transfer keeps target locks when V switches between aiming and hip fire. Targeting Prism allows more than one target lock at once. The Ping bonus adds to these perks, so Smart weapons lock on to pinged enemies very quickly.
Select a Build
Quickhacks such as Contagion and Overheat soften a group, and Overclock spends Health for more uploads. The Hercules 3AX smart rifle finishes the rest. Kerenzikov slows time during dodges and slides.

Lore
The in-game description says that some of the oldest and most basic functions in computing may never stop being useful. Ping is one of them, and it reports everything connected to the local network.
Notes
- Ping is untraceable at every tier, so it never starts a trace on its own.
