The DB-4 Palica is a smart double-barrel shotgun, Rostović's attempt to put homing rounds in a cheap gun. Each blast sends a spray of guided projectiles after the locked target. V can fire from the hip around a corner and still hit. Its built-in trait makes every round hit harder, but some rounds lose their lock. The Palica is a close-range smart gun that works in a build mixing Body shotguns and Intelligence smart weapons. It is sold in shops across Night City. The DB-4 Palica is sold in shops from the early game onward. Robert Wilson in Little China stocks it, and so do vendors in Kabuki, Japantown, Vista del Rey and Rancho Coronado.
Combat
The Palica needs a Smart Link to work as intended. With one installed, it locks onto an enemy, and each blast sends its projectiles curving toward that target. Smart rounds can bend around low cover, so an enemy crouched behind a crate can still be hit.
Its trait raises the damage of every round, but each one can lose its lock and miss. Each blast fires a whole spray of rounds at the target. With only two shells, it needs a reload after every second shot.
Smart rounds fly slower than normal pellets, and shotguns are short-range guns. The Palica is at its best inside buildings, where enemies duck behind furniture and doorways. A normal rifle is better against a target far away.

Character Builds
The Palica uses perks from two attribute trees, Body and Intelligence. In Body, Like A Feather removes the movement penalty for shotguns. Bullet Ballet reduces the spread while moving. Die! Die! Die! adds crit chance at low Stamina. Rush Of Blood speeds up the reload after a dismemberment.
In Intelligence, No Escape resets a lock that is about to run out when V shoots the target. Targeting Prism allows several target locks and adds one more target for every smart weapon. Terminal Velocity speeds up smart rounds after each smart kill, which helps a gun with slow projectiles. Recirculation returns RAM after a smart kill.
Smart Link is the key cyberware, because it turns on smart targeting. Its mod slots take smart and shotgun mods. Panorama widens the smart targeting circle. It also keeps a lock for a moment after the target leaves the circle. Vivisector raises dismemberment chance and adds torso damage afterwards. Kneel! adds a chance to dismember and kill on a leg shot. Hackatomy, an Iconic mod, gives each hit a chance to apply a quickhack effect based on the body part hit. Equalizer adds damage against Elite enemies.
Select a Build
Each fight starts with Overclock, then a control quickhack, then a combat quickhack. Smart guns lock on and finish the hacked enemies while Dashes and air Dashes keep the character moving. Silenced Smart guns and stealthy quickhacks also handle quiet gigs.

Lore
The Palica's in-game line sums up its pitch: "smart" does not equal "expensive". Its database entry explains that Rostović, based in Serbia, set out to prove a smart gun could be cheap. The company built the Palica on its trusted old Igla.
It is unclear whether the experiment worked. The price is lower than the competition, and so is the quality. The entry says it offers the basics of a smart shotgun but falls well short of Arasaka or Tsunami guns. Still, for anyone short of money, the entry calls the Palica the smart choice.
