Self-ICE

| Class | Frontal Cortex |
| Tier | Tier 3 |
| Capacity | 5 |
Self-ICE blocks an enemy quickhack before it can hurt V. When a hostile netrunner finishes an upload, the implant cancels it automatically. That stops a dangerous hack before it can do any harm. It is a direct defense against enemy netrunners, and it suits every build. It also raises V's max RAM, so netrunners get extra value from it. Self-ICE is a mid game implant that every ripperdoc in Night City and Dogtown sells from level 20, and Phantom Liberty adds another way to get it.
Effect
Self-ICE works on its own with no button press. When an enemy quickhack reaches V, the implant negates it completely. A cooldown then starts. Until the cooldown ends, the next enemy quickhack lands as normal.
At Tier 3 the cooldown is 45 seconds. Each tier shortens it, down to 20 seconds at Tier 5++. A short cooldown lets Self-ICE block several hacks during a long fight with netrunners.
Self-ICE also raises max RAM. It adds one point at Tier 3 and two points at the highest tiers. A netrunner can use that RAM for an extra quickhack.
Self-ICE is attuned to Intelligence. Each point of Intelligence cuts the cooldown by half a second. At 20 Intelligence, that is ten seconds off the cooldown.
How to Get Self-ICE Guide
- Reach level 20.
- Visit any ripperdoc clinic in Night City or Dogtown and open the Frontal Cortex slots.
- Buy and install Self-ICE.
- With Phantom Liberty, take Nix's shard during the main job Black Steel In The Hour Of Chaos. He includes a Self-ICE with the data.

Upgrades
Ripperdocs sell Self-ICE at Tier 3 from level 20, Tier 4 from level 30 and Tier 5 from level 40. An installed copy can be raised a tier at a ripperdoc with the matching item components. Each tier shortens the cooldown, and the highest tiers add the second point of max RAM. The Driver Update perk adds one more stat bonus. The Chipware Connoisseur perk offers a choice of bonuses when V upgrades the implant. V gains Cyberware Capacity with each level and from Cyberware Capacity Shards. The Edgerunner perk lets V go over the limit at the cost of some max Health.
The table shows what each tier step of Self-ICE costs at a ripperdoc.
| Upgrade | Components | Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Tier 3 to Tier 3+ | 10 Tier 3 components | - |
| Tier 3+ to Tier 4 | 7 Tier 4 components | - |
| Tier 4 to Tier 4+ | 10 Tier 4 components | - |
| Tier 4+ to Tier 5 | 7 Tier 5 components | - |
| Tier 5 to Tier 5+ | 10 Tier 5 components | - |
| Tier 5+ to Tier 5++ | 25 Tier 5 components | Phantom Liberty |
Character Builds
Self-ICE fits any build, because enemy netrunners threaten every V. It suits Intelligence builds best, since Intelligence shortens its cooldown. Counter-A-Hack lets V hack back at an enemy netrunner through walls. Copy-Paste spreads a counter quickhack to the netrunner's allies. Encryption lowers how fast enemies trace V's own hacks.
Self-ICE has a low capacity cost, so it fits even a crowded build. The Frontal Cortex also holds RAM implants such as Memory Boost and the RAM Upgrade. Together they give a netrunner both protection and a bigger RAM pool.
Select a Build
Dashes close the gap so the shotgun can blast enemies at point-blank range. A quick melee hit after a shot boosts the next one through Rip and Tear. The shotgun and LMG perks grow stronger at low Stamina, so the build keeps shooting and dashing without a pause.
