The COX-2 Cybersomatic Optimizer lets V's quickhacks land critical hits, and at its highest tiers nearly every one does. It is the Iconic variant of the Bioconductor, with a far higher Crit Chance. The price is a cut to max RAM and a heavy capacity cost. Netrunners who kill with Combat quickhacks gain the most. Guides rate it very highly for any build that relies on damaging quickhacks. The COX-2 Cybersomatic Optimizer is a mid to late game Phantom Liberty implant, sold by the ripperdocs in Dogtown and found in Dogtown airdrops.
Effect
The COX-2 is a passive Frontal Cortex implant. It unlocks critical hits for quickhacks, so every damaging quickhack rolls for one. The implant adds a very large Crit Chance for quickhacks, which reaches a sure critical hit at Tier 5. Combat quickhacks such as Short Circuit and Synapse Burnout benefit directly.
The drawback is a lower max RAM. Fewer RAM units means fewer quickhacks before V must wait for RAM to recover. The plus steps of Tier 5 shrink this penalty. At Tier 5++ the RAM cut is half of what it is at Tier 3.
The implant is attuned to Intelligence. Each Intelligence point adds a little quickhack damage, so a full Intelligence build gets the most from it. Its extra stat bonuses also suit a netrunner. The first bonus raises Reload Speed. Quickhack Damage arrives at Tier 2 and higher. RAM Regen from neutralizing an enemy needs the Driver Update perk.
How to Get COX-2 Cybersomatic Optimizer Guide
- Install Phantom Liberty and reach Dogtown.
- Visit a ripperdoc in Dogtown from level 20 to buy it at Tier 3.
- Return at level 30 for Tier 4 and at level 40 for Tier 5.
- Loot it from an airdrop cache in Dogtown, marked by red smoke.

Upgrades
The COX-2 comes in Tiers 3, 4 and 5, with plus steps in between. The main tiers raise Crit Chance with quickhacks. The plus steps of Tier 5 reduce the max RAM penalty instead. The capacity cost stays the same at every tier, and it is very heavy. A ripperdoc can upgrade it with crafting components, which is the only way to reach Tier 5++. Cyberware Capacity Shards and the Edgerunner perk help make room for it.
The table shows what each tier step of COX-2 Cybersomatic Optimizer costs at a ripperdoc.
| Upgrade | Components | Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Tier 3 to Tier 3+ | 50 Tier 3 components | - |
| Tier 3+ to Tier 4 | 37 Tier 4 components | - |
| Tier 4 to Tier 4+ | 50 Tier 4 components | - |
| Tier 4+ to Tier 5 | 37 Tier 5 components | - |
| Tier 5 to Tier 5+ | 50 Tier 5 components | - |
| Tier 5+ to Tier 5++ | 125 Tier 5 components | Phantom Liberty |
Character Builds
The COX-2 belongs in an Intelligence build that kills with quickhacks. Synapse Burnout deals more damage for each RAM unit already spent, and a critical hit makes that finishing blow far stronger. Overclock lets V keep hacking with too little RAM by paying Health, which softens the RAM penalty during a fight. Hack Queue and Queue Acceleration each add max RAM. Optimization raises RAM recovery.
The RAM Reallocator pairs well, because it adds max RAM and refills RAM when it runs low. The Tetratronic Rippler adds max RAM at Tier 4 and higher. A cyberdeck with many quickhack slots lets V carry several damaging quickhacks to make use of the critical hits.
Select a Build
The Monowire whips several enemies at once from a short distance, and quickhacks are uploaded between attacks. Intelligence perks give the Monowire more damage and return RAM on hits. Overclock spends Health in place of RAM when a fight drags on.

Lore
The COX-2 shares its in-game description with the Bioconductor. The text says it improves superconductivity in the circuits that connect the body's cyberware. In play, that means V's hacks hit with the same critical force as V's weapons. It is one of the Iconic implants that arrived with Phantom Liberty and are sold only inside Dogtown.
Notes
- The Bioconductor is the base implant. It is sold by every ripperdoc, costs much less capacity and gives a much smaller Crit Chance with quickhacks.
