Iconic Items
Iconic items are the named, one-of-a-kind gear of Night City. Each one has an effect that common gear lacks, or a much stronger form of a common effect. Vendor stock and the inventory show them on a gold background. Iconic weapons, Iconic cyberware, a set of permanent supplements and the clothes of Johnny Silverhand all carry the mark. Iconic clothing and most Iconic weapons can only be taken once, from a single job, boss or hidden spot.
Weapons
Iconic weapons are the named guns and blades of the game. Most are altered takes on a standard weapon, with a look and an effect of their own. Hawk weakens enemies on a headshot. Order vaporizes everything in the path of a charged shot. Breakthrough ignores armor completely.
Every class and every attribute has its own Iconic weapons, so they fit any build. Many of them are the best in their class. A favourite Iconic can stay in use from the first act to the last.
Iconic weapons are the only weapons that can be upgraded. Most of them have no mod slots and rely on their own special mod instead. The x-MOD2 series is the exception, with two guaranteed mod slots and better handling. Some effects come with a drawback. Plan B spends eddies on every shot. Death and Taxes costs Health.
Many Iconic weapons are job rewards. Panam gives Overwatch, Kerry gives Archangel, River gives Crash, and Tiny Mike gives Hypercritical. Bosses and named enemies carry others. Saburo Arasaka drops Nehan, Nash drops Widow Maker, and Dante Caruso drops Ol' Reliable.
Every Iconic weapon is listed below by class. Each one also has its own page under its class.

Cyberware
Iconic cyberware is the rare chrome of Night City. Many Iconic implants are stronger variants of a common implant. The Peripheral Inverse cuts close-range damage by up to 45%. Its common relative, the ProxiShield, stops at 20%. Other Iconic implants have an effect no common implant has. The Militech "Apogee" Sandevistan slows time by 85%, more than any other Sandevistan. The Militech Berserk makes its user fully invulnerable. The Militech Canto is the only cyberdeck that carries Blackwall Gateway.
Most Iconic implants belong to Phantom Liberty and come from Dogtown. The Dogtown ripperdocs sell most of them once V's level allows. Dogtown airdrops drop them too, and red smoke marks each airdrop. A few are sold by every ripperdoc in the city. The Militech "Falcon" Sandevistan and the Militech Berserk appear from level 30. The Apogee and the NetWatch Netdriver appear from level 40.
Iconic implants cost far more Cyberware Capacity than common ones. The COX-2 Cybersomatic Optimizer and Chitin take about 50 each. A build can only carry a few of them, so capacity decides which ones make the cut. The Edgerunner perk allows going 50 points over capacity. Each point over the limit costs 0.5% of max Health. The Chrome Compressor gives up the operating system for up to 70 extra capacity.
Every Iconic implant is listed below by slot. Each one also has its own page under its slot.

Consumables
Iconic consumables are supplements that raise a stat for good. The Prototype Pseudoembryonic Cell Builder raises max Health. The Dendritic Protoplasma Supplier speeds up RAM recovery. The Military-Grade Lactic Acid Recyclers speed up Stamina regeneration.
Each supplement is used the moment V buys it. The bonus never wears off. Each vendor sells a given supplement only once, and copies bought from different vendors stack. The item text never calls them Iconic. Vendor stock still shows them on the gold background of Iconic items.

Clothing
Iconic clothing belongs to an important story character. Every Iconic piece is part of Johnny Silverhand's attire. Rogue gives V the Replica of Johnny's Samurai Jacket at the start of Chippin' In. Johnny's Pants wait in a suitcase in the bedroom during the Psychofan gig. Johnny's Shoes sit in a locker during the Family Heirloom gig, beside a bootleg shard and a set of car keys. Johnny's Tank Top comes during the final stage of Tapeworm.

Upgrades
Iconic weapons are upgraded in the Upgrades tab of the crafting menu. Every build can use this tab. Each step spends item components of the weapon's current tier. Components come from dismantling items, from caches and from enemies. Vendors do not sell them. Tier 5++ appears from level 51, which only Phantom Liberty reaches. Each weapon page lists the cost of every step.
Iconic implants are upgraded at a ripperdoc. A ripperdoc upgrade costs only components of the tier being reached. It is also the only way to bring an implant to Tier 5++. Most Iconic implants keep the same capacity cost at every tier. An upgrade never needs more capacity.
Notes
- Picking up an Iconic weapon unlocks its crafting spec, so a second copy can be crafted.
- Leaders of Suspected Organized Crime Activities drop the specs for other Iconic weapons. Weapon vendors sell some of them too.
- Herold Lowe at the EBM Petrochem Stadium in Dogtown sells Iconic weapons that were missed earlier.
- Several Iconic weapons hide in Dogtown. Laika, Taigan and Alabai wait in scripted airdrops.
- Some Iconic implants need a specific story path. The Quantum Tuner needs the King of Wands ending. The Canto needs Reed's side of the story, and it rules out the Erebus.
- Carol Emeka gives a Militech "Falcon" Sandevistan during Black Steel In The Hour of Chaos, if she is the netrunner V calls.
- Axolotl is also the reward of Last Call, the job Regina Jones offers once all her Watson gigs are done.
